BASEAK sponsored the Outbound Investments Forum 2017, which hosted the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and our lawyers as speakers.
The Forum was organized by DEIK Foreign Economic Relations Board in cooperation with Balcıoğlu Selçuk Akman Keki Attorney Partnership (BASEAK), Dentons, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the World Bank International Finance Corporation (IFC). The event aimed at discussing legal issues regarding investment risks and financing instruments surrounding potential new markets for Turkish investors.
In the opening speech of the Forum, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek talked about alternative investment strategies for Turkish entrepreneurs who are interested in outbound investments as well as gaining and increasing market share.
Jean-Partrick Marquetise, Executive Director of EBRD, said that he was impressed by the Turkish private sector’s success in the past two years and noted that the international trade has continuously increased. He further stated that EBRD has invested €9 billion in different sectors in Turkey so far, of which €2 billion was invested in 2015 and 2016.
Barlas Balcıoğlu, BASEAK Managing Partner and the Head of Banking and Finance Practice, and partner Tamsyn Mileham provided legal insight on the regulation of overseas investments, in particular on secured finance, representations and covenants as well as financial assistance and restriction mitigation.
Galip M. Selçuk, BASEAK partner and the Head of Corporate and M&A, spoke about balancing risks, focused risk analysis, contractual protection on warranties, indemnities and limitation of liability.
